Gennady Matishov, an Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), research supervisor of the Southern Scientific Centre of the RAS warned the Russian people about the onset of a little ice age instead of the expected global warming. G. Matishov said that four years ago he had visited at the North Pole. "You stand there at the end of August - and what you see around are all ice blocks, snow, polar bears - and think: "It would be good to gather here the supporters of global warming for at least for one day," he recalled. According to the academician, if the supporters of the global warming theory were right, the ice in the Arctic would have already melted away.
The scientist reminded cyclic nature of the earth climate. He expressed the opinion that the warm period at the North Pole has come to an end, and the climate has turned towards its cold cycle. This is indicated by the unbalancing state of climate in the European part of Russia: cold winters, droughts, fires, intense precipitation. "We are moving towards a little ice age. But it will arrive in thousands of years. Human life does not note such changes, but they are felt for the epochs" - Matishov summarised.
Earlier, Professor of the Russian State Hydrometeorological University Oleg Pokrovsky warned about ongoing serious climate changes in the territory of Russia, which threaten with global cooling in the future. He pointed to the fact that over the past few years, the average surface temperature in the sub-polar zone has been falling sharply. The same processes are moving towards the Arctic Ocean, which is also causing the changes in the processes in the atmosphere. Professor Pokrovsky is of the opinion that If this continues, the world will get colder, especially in the Scandinavian countries and Russia.
