Russia has updated its maritime borders in the Baltic. The Russian government has invalidated the list of coordinates of points defining the position of the baselines from which the width of the territorial sea, the adjacent zone of the country off the mainland coast and the islands of Russia in the Baltic Sea are measured. The updated list has been approved, and the relevant document has been published on the portal of regulatory legal acts.
"The baseline from which the width of the territorial sea of the Russian Federation is measured, <... It is formed by the line of the highest ebb running from the exit point of the line of the land section of the state border of the Russian Federation with the Republic of Lithuania to the exit point of the line of the land section of the state border of the Russian Federation with the Republic of Poland," the document says.
In addition, the resolution invalidates the "Baltic Sea" section of the list of geographical coordinates of points defining the position of baselines for measuring the width of territorial waters, the economic zone and the continental shelf on Russian territory, which was approved back in 1985.
In connection with these changes, the Russian Ministry of Defense will have to publish a new list in "Notices to Seafarers" and republish maritime navigation maps. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also obliged to transfer the adjusted maps to the UN. In addition, Roskadaster will take into account the new data when creating and reissuing maps.
