The SpaceX CEO once again spoke about his desire to carry people to Mars. However, this time he was not so optimistic in his statements, telling what difficulties the first interplanetary travellers might face. He thinks, this may be the last adventure in their lives for them.

Under such assumed circumstances, the following questions inevitably arise:

- Is there a requirement for a manned expedition to Mars?

- Is it realistic to have a permanent base on Mars, supplied from the Earth? How much will such a base and its supplies cost?

- Is it realistic to have an almost independent colony, supplied from the Earth only with unique items that can't be reproduced on the spot?

- Is it realistic to arrange terraforming of Mars and to what extent? Is such a goal justified?
