The government of Mexico is going to allow foreign investors to national raw hydrocarbon deposits.  In the government of Mexico there are discussions about the admission of foreign investors to the national oil and gas sector. According to the current legislation the transfer of national hydrocarbon resources to foreign companies is prohibited.

The oil and gas industry of Mexico was nationalized seventy-five years ago. The article of the law is provided in the Constitution. If decision to invite foreign investments in the oil and gas sector is approved by the government, in the Mexican Constitution should be amended accordingly. In this case foreign companies will be able to participate not only in the production of hydrocarbons, but also in the national projects on oil transportation.

Draft amendment to the law provides for the establishment of concessions with foreign companies, as well as the conclusion of production sharing agreements.

The water area of the Gulf of Mexico in which a large number of promising hydrocarbon deposits development is of interest for foreign companies.

The Mexican government expects to increase annual economic indicators at two percent with the help of foreign investment. Currently Mexico takes a tenth place in the world on volume of shale oil and the sixth place on volume of shale gas.
