Forum for Energy: for 10 years, Poland must refuse from using coal. On the 14th of February, at an interview to the Newseria information agency, Joanna Mackoviak-Pandera, President of the Forum Energii announced that to comply with the ecological standards of European Union, Poland shall try to reduce coal consumption for 10 years. Poland consumes 24-26 million tons of coal annually for heating purposes. Half of this is used by private households. Private households in Poland consume 87% of consumption of the total consumption by European Union.

For the coal is burned using very inefficient methods on old equipment, it leads serious contamination of the air and causes growth of the number of diseases it causes.

Therefore, the shift from use of coal to more efficient energy sources becomes very urgent. The Forum Energii thinks that modernisation of the Polish system is possible for 10 years, which will require 140 billion Euros.

We should note that Poland annually receives reproaches from the management of European Union on the insufficiency of its coal-based energy system. The carbon dioxide emissions from the heating system alone make 68 million tons. For the past few years the cost of quotas for emission of carbon dioxide for CHPP systems has increased by 250%.
